If only…!

This is a Photoshop gift from my good friend Ryan. Unfortunately, it is not a real proposal. He's already married. Too bad for me!

If I Can Make It There…

The news of my departure from Podshow broke this morning. It is true, I am moving to New York City in January to work for Cnet TV. TechCrunch reported on the story late Sunday night before Adam Curry could make his own announcement. Nevertheless, I am relieved not to have to keep this secret anymore. I'm lousy at keeping secrets. I'll never work for the CIA. I became a journalist to tell the world what I know, not keep it to myself. Journalists do not like to keep secrets. Words to live by.

I am really excited about this move but I want to make it clear that my departure from Podshow is not an indication of the state of things at Podshow. This is just the next logical step for me and I owe a lot of it to Podshow. I was not a proven success story when Adam "discovered" me on an episode of Cranky Geeks. He took a huge chance and made a huge investment in me and I will never forget that. Adam took me to Spruce in Lauren Heights last week and he offered to continue to be a mentor to me and I am surely going to take him up on that offer. Podshow will continue to do big things, with or without TeXtra.

I am not nervous about leaving San Francisco. My heart is here and always will be. It is my home. I am not nervous about the job. I am not nervous about high rents in New York or being away from my friends. I am mostly nervous about freezing my Californian butt off!

CNN YouTube Debates: Better But Scary

picture-1.pngI stayed up late last night to watch the CNN YouTube Republican Presidential Debates on my DVR. My coverage is here.

While I do think CNN chose better questions this time around, I have to think the program ended up a bit stereotypical and sensational. It was so quintessentially red state. Bibles and guns and log cabins. Yeehaw!

Like, OMG! Gadgets For Girls

picture-2.pngI wrote this story for ELLE Girl about buying teenage girls gadgets for the holidays. It was actually a bit more challenging than I had originally thought it would be but I had a blast doing it. I want each and every single one of these things! Especially the Olympus Stylus. I just wish it came it better colors.

Happy holiday shopping!

Technology Failed Me This Thanksgiving

I truly believe that you can have a bad technology day in much the same way that you can have a bad hair day. This weekend was a series of bad technology days. My Sony Cybershot was in the shop because I dropped it on Halloween so I had to use my sister's camera to photograph my Thanksgiving dinner, which I put many a blood, sweat, and tear into. That camera did not work either. It has a problem transferring photos off of the device so I have to get a memory card reader to get the photos off. My backup was my Nokia N95, which has a pretty great camera, only it kept rebooting itself involuntarily. I give up.

I had wanted to post photos to my Flickr album and recipes to Open Source Food but it looks like neither are possible until I find a flash card reader.

Also, my turkey didn't cook all the way through in the fryer. The outside started to burn before the inside was cooked. I didn't even want to deep fry it. I wanted to brine it like I did last year. I think this year's 26-pound turkey was too big for the hot oil. The outer breasts were still good. Next year we'll get two small turkeys, fry one, and brine the other. This is the last time I take orders from my turkey bitches, AKA my family. I'm in charge of this operation! I should know better to listen to the laborers!
