Moving On Up
Thursday, January 29, 2009 at 07:18PM
I should finish my packing. Instead I'm fooling around online. I was just thinking about the things I will and will not miss about my Lower East Side apartment. For obvious reasons, I'm not going to write about what neighborhood I am moving to, not that anyone really cares. Meanwhile, I'm in the listing mood so here it goes:
Things I will miss:
Things I will not miss:
See, the bad outweigh the good. It was time to move on.
Things I will miss:
- The guys who work at the front desk. Especially you Daniel! Your smiling face has been a great way to start my day for the past year!
- The gym. I hope I can still force myself to go to the gym when it isn't in my building!
- My stainless steel stove;
- Dry cleaning in the building;
- My local wine store, September Wines. Somehow I think they'll miss me too...or at least my credit card;
- The statue of Vladimir Lenin on top of the Red Square building. I can see him from my bed so I wake up to him with his right arm in the air every single morning. See it here.
- Inoteca
Things I will not miss:
- The girls who scream, "Where's my boyfriend!?" at 4 a.m. while leaving the Lower East Side bars on any given day;
- The symphony of honking on Houston Street that forces me to sleep with earplugs;
- The fresh vomit that I sometimes step over while leaving for the Early Show at 4:30 a.m. on any given day;
- The music that my neighbors blast in the middle of the day. Look, I love Duran Duran too but enough is enough!
- The loud obnoxious sounds my neighbors make when they are enjoying one another's company in the middle of the day;
- The smell of pickles from Katz Deli that I am forced to inhale when walking home every day;
- The people who do not clean the lint filters in the laundry room because they think they are too good to clear out their own dead skin cells from shared appliances;
- The fact that there is not a close enough Starbucks;
- The mural of Kiss on the brick wall on the bar across from my apartment.
See, the bad outweigh the good. It was time to move on.

I want to move to NYC damnit! And how can there not be enought Starbucks???
Hope your move will be a smooth one :-)
See you on Loaded and BOL on Monday~
Hey Natali! Good luck with your move--hopefully your new hood is packed with fantastic treasures like your old one (without the 'things you will not miss').
And I wonder... before Starbucks layoff and closing stores, there was a total of 171 starbucks. How many are left now?

Wow, no nearby Starbucks! That's enough cause for me too.
But seriously, you should get started on the packing department, that can take you pretty good time :)
Let us know how your big moving goes, and good luck on your new place!
It is sad to leave a place but it does sound like it is time to move on, hope it goes smooth!
They'll be even less Starbucks later in the year . .
Are those neighbors enjoying each other's company to the music of Duran Duran?
I am *shocked* that you put the KISS mural under the things you won't miss. Shocked I tell you.
I hope you don't mind some of both lists made me chuckle. Good luck with your move!
That was funny natali,I hope you enjoy your new neighborhood. Robert
Where in Manhattan are you moving to? I assume you're staying in New York. Maybe you can do a quick lil' video of your new place??
8. The short commute. (but don't you dare ask CBS to move you to another building)
Congrats again on the move chica and the best of luck to you with it. I've wanted to move to Loisaida (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loisaida) for minute now but I was always wary of the bar scene down there. And for good reason it seems. Although there is still some nice family parts in the area.
Nonetheless, may your new spot be a better overall experience for you here in The City. Hopefully though, it won't be some homogenized (ala lacking culture) spot like those found in Midtown or Chelsea. Good luck.
Ha! You were living in the Loisaida!? Good god Natali that's no place for a transplanted SF niner.
There are good neighbors on NYC and then there are bad.
I live in the East Village, a little ways above you, and will be moving soon. Too much NYU romper room action.
I hope you moved to the West Village on a quite street. The WV would suit you better being from Cali.
Regardless, funny post.
damn typos, grrr. meant:
There are good neighborhoods in NYC and then there are bad.
the "where's my boyfriend line @ 4am" ... cracks me UP. LOL
thank you for making me laugh
a gym in your own building ~ now that's badass! I gotta drive 15 minutes to get to LifeTime Fitness from my suburb home.
sometimes I wish I purchased a CondO downtown in Austin, next time.
Oh come on, just say it! You are moving to The Hamptons. :)
Whole Foods Market (aka "Whole Paycheck")...
Miss or not miss????
Hi Natali,
Congratulations on your move. I hope that it all went well. I also congratulate you on the success of Loaded and joining as a host on Buzz Out Loud. It is awesome that a podcast can have hosts on both coasts which is a testament to the power of technology!
By the way, I just found out that if you Google "Del Conte", then your site is the first link. Searching for "Natali" results in you being the second link. So, it looks like you are getting the appropriate amount of "Google Juice"!
Have you read the book, 'I Was Told There'd be Cake' by Sloane Crosley? The Manhattan experience and wit you both share is uncanny...
No importa donde estes en NY, todo Manhattan es divertido. Suerte! Si te molestas en responder, te prometo regalar como un "house warming gift" .... a free set of kitchen knives, ABSOLUTELY FREE! :)Saludos desde Wash DC.
I hope your move goes (and/or went?) well Natali. :D
The people who do not clean the lint filters in the laundry room because they think they are too good to clear out their own dead skin cells from shared appliances
OMG, OMG! I did not want to think about the fact that there are dead skin cells in the lint filters *barf*
I'm so glad people at my apartment complex are good about that.
Good luck with your move!
your move is being closely followed and dare I say eagerly anticipated by some of the NY community. bon voyage!
