CNET En Español

Today CNET will announce a partnership with Univision called CNET Tecnologia. As part of this partnership, myself and the New York CNET TV crew will be producing weekly news shows in Spanish. You can find my first one here.

I have to admit, I found this assignment of producing regular news shows for Univision to be daunting. I really wanted my Spanish to sound perfect and I wanted to make sure I used the correct terminology when it came to writing about technology in Spanish. Fortunately, the managing editor for Univision, is a great resource. I sent him my first script and he sent it back with very helpful edits. This first video was supposed to be a trial run but he liked it enough to publish it live.

To my Spanish-speaking friends and relatives, this is by far my biggest accomplishment. Hispanohablantes don't have several news networks to choose from, they just have Univision. It is THE place to go for information. My mother was so proud when she saw it, she called me and said, "Oh, my baby, she's speaking Spanish!" My sister wrote me an email and said, "You'd think we don't have English-speaking parents!"

I will be producing one of these per week. It will basically be a weekly version of Loaded, rather than a daily version like the English show. Even though there will only be one per week, it will probably take me just as long to write the Spanish version at first. Plus, filming in Spanish is not as easy just yet but, as my dad said, "that's just a matter of court time." So please enjoy my first few steps onto this court.

Me llamo Jones Johnson.

Encienda la luz. Donde esta la biblioteca?

I'm remembering bits and pieces from highschool Spanish classes. While I haven't checked out the videos yet, I'm sure you did a fantastic job as usual.

It's great to see you diversifying like this. Fantastic!

Fantastico!

I'm thinking that I'm in the same boat as you in terms of my ability to speak Spanish, so it was a relief that I could understand your entire segment the first time. I stopped watching Univision because they speak so rapidly that I can't make anything out, which seems to be the style. I'm sure if you keep at it, before long I won't be able to understand you either!

Great Job Natali!

Natali,
I am so proud of you! I don't know if producing technology content in Spanish is one reason you decided to join CNET, but I think that producing such content for under-served demographics is awesome! The only other show that I can think of that produces Spanish tech content is mobuzz.tv so there is plenty of room for quality video shows. I only took four years of Spanish in high school so I'm far from proficient, but your Spanish sounds awesome!

Good luck Natali.

Your Spanish will improve, I am sure about it.

¡ Buena suerte !

By the way, I suppose you know that the Spanish you are speaking, although it sounds quite plain and lacking of any accent, contains many phrases and words from, let's say, American Spanish. But I guess that's your target.

Hola Natali!
I'm quite a novice in Spanish, that's just the show I was waiting for. It's so easy to understand. I hope you don't crank up the speed like Cali ;)
Cheers

Nice job. Me gusta.

You go girl! I was born in the states but I too have asian parents, sometimes for me to speak the native language the accent is missing. So I agree it's your heritage own it no one can say you're not.

Plus you've never had a chance to grow-up with the fluency around you so now you will. This may be a great time to remind your audience about the first time you were on TeXtra. The first time you did an amazing job but like everyone you grew and now you own the space you're in on the web.

ojala que todos vas a mejores (I hope I said that right) The arabic literal word is one of my favorites to use....Inshallah which means if it is willed it will be so. You definitely have the will

March 18, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterjax989

You said all the words perfectly, but with an English accent.

Once you lose the accent you'll be great...

El acento no importa, lo que importa es el esfuerzo. Adelante Natali... Gracias por este nuevo proyecto. ¡Te apoyamos!

Wow! I first knew of you by hearing your voice on a BOL episode... then i moved to watch you on Loaded... and i would have never guessed you spoke fluent spanish.

I just watched the episode. Congratz! You did a great job. Your pronunciation is pretty good. Im pretty sure you will perfect the pronunciation and accent along the way.

I send you my best wishes all the way from Mexico. Take care and keep up the good work.
